Two tips for those who intend to get chiropractic treatment for their back pain

Blog

If you are planning to visit a chiropractor with the intention of undergoing treatment for your back pain, you should keep the two tips below in mind.

Don't panic if your back makes strange noises during the treatment process

After the chiropractor has assessed your back injury and begins to carry out the treatment process, you may hear some strange clicking and popping noises coming from your back or neck. These noises are nothing to fear. They tend to occur when a chiropractor is manipulating the joints in the back or neck; this movement applies pressure to the synovial fluid that encases and lubricates the joints, which then causes the gas-filled bubbles inside this fluid to burst, and the gas within them to be released.

The bursting of these bubbles and the subsequent release of gas is neither painful nor dangerous, and as such, is nothing to worry about. It is important, however, not to panic if you hear this type of noise, as this could lead to you jumping up from the treatment bed whilst the chiropractor is in the midst of manipulating your spine. This, in turn, could result in you sustaining an injury.

Take yoga classes in between your sessions with the chiropractor

After you begin to undergo periodic chiropractic treatment, it is a good idea to start attending a weekly yoga class. The reason for this is as follows; yoga is an excellent form of exercise for those who suffer from back pain, and it may be able to help you maintain and enhance the improvements that you experience in your back as a result of your chiropractic treatment.

For example, if your back issues have reduced your range of motion and your chiropractor has performed manipulations on your joints in order to help resolve this issue, you may be able to build upon the improvements and restore your full range of motion by doing yoga poses on a regular basis, as these poses will, over time, increase your flexibility.

If your back pain was caused by a spinal issue (like a ruptured disc, for example), and your chiropractic treatment resolved this problem, attending yoga classes regularly from now on could also be a good idea, as practising yoga could strengthen the muscles in your back, which could, in turn, support and protect your spine and thus help you to avoid injuring it again in the future.
